Stonnington Jazz 2019 – First shows announced
Our first announcement has just gone live! Excited to share some of the projects I’ve been working on:
WAR CRY: featuring Odette Mercy, Fem Belling, Michelle Nicolle, Rita Satch, Racerage, Sahida Apsara and Claire Cross
This show is a new concept I have put together for the festival opening night featuring an amazing line up of vocalists and artists responding to social justice issues and politics through jazz. The repertoire traverses the intersections of jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, spoken word and traditional music to weave together an emotional and uplifting concert.
A specially curated band led by bassist Claire Cross will support each vocalist with hard hitting grooves and harmonies as they perform their selections.
Friday May 10, Chapel off Chapel
QUEENS OF THE JAZZ AGE: Starring host and performer Rhonda Burchmore, with Dolly Diamond, Stella Angelico & Cougar Morrison accompanied by the Jack Earle Big Band.
I’ve wanted to do a Hollywood style floor show at Stonnington for years and I’m so thrilled its coming together in 2019 with this exuberant line up. Celebrating all things jazz, cabaret, big band (and a little bit of kitsch) this show is set to be a hilariously decadent and fun evening of music and costuming. Featuring Australian entertainment royalty Rhonda Burchmore with some of Australia’s best drag artists Cougar Morrison and Dolly Diamond and the amazing vocalist Stella Angelico, we are in for a treat.

BARNEY MCCALL: Hearing The Blood
An absolute legend of the Australian Jazz scene, I’m excited pianist and composer Barney is presenting work from his new album “Hearing the Blood” at the festival. Do listen to the record, it is simply stunning – then come to the show and hear it live!
Thursday May 16, Chapel off Chapel
